Presentación

El Centro Andaluz de Ciencia y Tecnología Marinas (CACYTMAR) es un centro mixto que depende de la Universidad de Cádiz y la Junta de Andalucía. Surge en el año 1999, como parte de un programa en el que se apuesta por la creación de centros de investigación temáticos de dimensión regional vinculados la universidad, con el objetivo de aglutinar y servir de vínculo a las distintas instituciones que trabajan en el campo temático de la ciencia y tecnología marina en Andalucía.

La localización del centro (Campus Universitario de Puerto Real), le confieren un ambiente científico y de aprendizaje único, dado el protagonismo de los estudios de vocación marina en la Universidad de Cádiz (que alberga las Facultades de Ciencias del Mar y Ciencias Náuticas, así como la Escuela de Ingeniería Técnica Naval), y también el elevado número de instituciones de investigación marina ubicados en el entorno de la bahía de Cádiz: Instituto de Ciencias Marinas de Andalucía -CSIC-, Unidad de Cádiz del Instituto Español de Oceanografía, Instituto Hidrográfico de la Marina, Real Observatorio de la Armada, Centro de Investigazzción y Cultivos Marinos “El Toruño” (Consejería de Agricultura y Pesca), entre otros.

En el CACYTMAR trabajan actualmente unas 40 personas pertenecientes a 10 grupos de investigación diferentes y otras 24 que hacen uso de sus servicios de forma habitual. El edificio que alberga al CACYTMAR dispone para este centro de una superficie de 2337 m2, incluyendo 17 laboratorios de 50 m2 así como una nave-laboratorio con doble altura y puente grúa de 200 m2, muy útil para el manejo de grandes equipos oceanográficos.
